ELGIN — Police have made an arrest in the brutal murder of a woman earlier this month in her west side townhome.
A press briefing was scheduled for this morning to announce the arrest and the name of the suspect who apparently was taken into custody over the weekend in connection with the March 2 stabbing death of Lisa Koziol-Ellis.
A group of detectives and uniformed police Friday night raided a townhouse near the one where the Elgin woman was murdered.
Witnesses said about 15 officers — two-thirds of them seen wearing helmets and body armor — entered a townhouse in the first block of Garden Crescent Court at about 6:15 p.m. Friday and took a man into custody. They could be seen going in and out of the home and also searching a nearby parked car. They also carried an animal cage into the house.
A state police crime scene team also arrived on the scene.
Cmdr. Glenn Theriault, the official police department spokesman, said at the time only that “we are conducting an investigation” at the site and there was no danger to the public. He said more details would be announced later.
The townhouse involved is in the same building, but a few doors to the east, as the townhouse where Koziol-Ellis was found stabbed to death at about 2:30 a.m. on March 2. The 33-year-old artist had moved into the house with her husband, Dash, just three days before.
Suggesting that the raid could be connected with the murder investigation, one of the police officers reportedly told a resident of the complex that “you are safer now than you have been the last couple of weeks.”
Koziol-Ellis’s friends have offered a reward of at least $15,000 for information leading to the killer’s arrest and conviction.
