Two-car Elgin crash on Route 20 injures six

Updated: April 6, 2013 6:10AM

ELGIN — Six people were taken to local hospitals with injuries not considered to be life-threatening following a two-car crash Sunday evening on Route 20.

Emergency responders were called to Route 20 between Shales Parkway and Route 25 at 6:53 p.m. on a report of a car that had been stalled in the road and was rear-ended by a second car. The impact sent one of the cars onto the other side of the four-lane road, authorities said.

Route 20 was closed in both directions for about 20 minutes while the accident was cleared, according to Elgin Fire Department officials.

The crash required a number of Elgin emergency vehicles at the scene, and Elgin reportedly requested assistance from other departments to fill in at three of its stations while working at the scene.
