Hampshire panel OKs no-parking zone by church

HAMPSHIRE — In order to improve access to Faithway Baptist Church, 195 Washington Ave., the village board Thursday night unanimously approved the creation of a 10-foot no-parking zone on Elm Street adjacent to the handicapped-accessible parkway sidewalk on the east side of the church.
“On occasion, vehicles will park in front of the parkway sidewalk, thereby restricting access to the handicapped-accessible entrance,” said Village Administrator Doug Maxeiner. “The center point of the proposed restricted parking area is the middle of the parkway sidewalk and running 5 feet to the north and south. Two signs will be installed restricting parking between the signs.”
In other business, Village President Jeffrey Magnussen offered condolences during the board meeting for the family of former Hampshire Trustee Tony Dentino, who served on the board from 1999 to 2001. Dentino, 80, died at home on Jan. 26. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rose Marie; three children; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
On a final note, the Hampshire Area Chamber of Commerce has announced two events coming up in March.
The annual Home and Business Expo is slated for 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at Hampshire High School, 1600 Big Timber Road. Chamber officials said there will be more than 40 booths, food concessions, electronic recycling, and the chance to win a 40-inch plasma television. Free admission and free parking will be available.
The chamber also will offer residents a chance to meet Hampshire trustee candidates at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at Hampshire Professional Center, 895 S. State St.
