HUNTLEY — For anyone looking for some unique gift ideas and a chance to help support upcoming programs at the Huntley Area Public Library, February is the month to visit.
The Friends of the Library Foundation is hosting its third-annual Think Outside the Box art exhibit and auction, with bidding opportunities open until 7 p.m. Feb. 28.
According to communications coordinator Leigh Ann Porsch, it’s all part of February’s Library Lovers’ Month activities.
This year, donors have outdone themselves with artistic decoupage, unusual ornamentation and crafty cunning to turn these ordinary boxes into something special. One example is a bejeweled box featuring the Huntley Square gazebo.
Another entry turns the project on its side for an artistic mantel clock featuring the year and the words, “It’s time to read.”
“Silent auction bids begin at $30, and all funds go to help the Huntley Library serve the community,” Porsch said.
There are a total of 24 decorated wooded boxes on display at the library, and patrons are encouraged to stop in and take a look. Top bidders will be notified of their wins in early March.
The Friends Foundation raises funds for many of the library’s programs and provides funding for prizes awarded to those who participate in the summer and winter reading programs. The Friends group provides speaker’s bureau fees for paid presenters at the library throughout the year and helps fund the eBook collection and the HelpNow! tutoring program for students within the library district.
The Huntley Library is at 11000 Ruth Road in the village.
