GENEVA — Kane County will have a new chief financial officer presiding over county finances starting on Tuesday.
The Kane County Board Wednesday approved hiring North Aurora resident and CPA Joseph Onzick for the position at a salary of $115,000.
Board Chairman Chris Lauzen said he is excited about the new hire.
“He’s a detail person. He’s a hard worker,” Lauzen said.
Onzick comes with a CPA and MBA, along with 12 years at a software firm spent teaching the accounting applications to larger clients. He also worked at Aurora University.
Lauzen said he was strongly targeting the right credentials in his search, which yielded four qualified candidates. The county’s CFO will be responsible for providing Lauzen and the board with the financial background to make important decisions.
“What I need is very accurate information,” he said.
Onzick will serve as part of a county financial team that includes treasurer Dave Rickert and auditor Terry Hunt.
The position opened late last summer when Cheryl Patelli resigned. It remained open through the election cycle because previous board Chairman Karen McConnaughay said she did not want to pick Lauzen’s CFO before she left the office.
