Carpentersville man dies in tollway crash

A Carpentersville man was killed early Sunday morning in a three vehicle crash on the Tri-State Tollway, authorities said. District 15 Illinois State Police Sgt. Tim Moore said the crash occurred at around 6:46 a.m. on the eastbound I-94 Tollway near Deerfield Road in Deerfield.
Cesar Salas, 39, of the 1700 block of Kingston Circle, was pronounced dead at the scene, Moore said. Moore said two other drivers and a passenger were transported to Lutheran General Hospital with minor injuries.

Domestic incident: A father, mother and grown son learned Friday that the family who fights together could go to jail together. Police reported that “numerous officers” were called to an apartment in the 200 block of Bartlett Place at about 9 a.m. on a complaint that a woman was being held down and beaten. Investigatorrs said they determined that Joseph Giacommino, 24, and his father, Michael G. Giacomino, 53, both of that address, had been kicking and punching a woman who lives with them, in the head, face and body because of a dispute over money. When police tried to arrest those two, officers said, 48-year-old Kathleen Giacomino, the mother of Joseph and wife of Michael, vowed that “you are not taking my son” and tried to keep the police from doing so. Joseph and Michael each were charged with two counts of domestic battery. Kathleen was charged with battery against a police officer and two counts of resisting or interfering with an officer, according to reports.

Snowmen on Barn Owl: If a Hampshire resident is missing a decorative snowman, it might be at the police station. A person who lives in the 200 block of Barn Owl Drive told police that on the evening of Jan. 28 her doorbell rang. When she opened the door, nobody was there except two fake snowmen. She turned them over to police. The next day, police said, another resident reported that somebody had stolen a snowman from his yard, and he retrieved it from the police station. Where the other one had come from remained a mystery.
