Kane changes qualifications for new Animal Control head

Updated: February 7, 2013 6:27AM

GENEVA — Kane County will be looking again for a new administrator for the Animal Control Department — instead of an administrator with veterinary experience.

The administrator position was vacated last May, when Kimberly Rudloff resigned after holding the job for three months. Before Rudloff, the position sat vacant for more than a year.

Before hiring Rudloff, the County Board conducted a significant amount of research and decided to go with someone who had both veterinary and administrative experience.

But on Thursday, the board’s Public Health Committee opted to seek someone who is solely an administrator, and continue to contract out the veterinary work out, as is done now.

Rudloff was hired at $88,000 per year. The pay range for the administrator position is listed between $65,000 and $80,000 per year.

Committee member Deb Allan was part of the process in hiring Rudloff, when the county wanted a veterinarian.

“Most vets just want to be vets,” she said. “In my mind it’s best to find a better-priced administrator.

The item is set to go before the Executive Committee on Jan. 10.
