ELGIN — Laura Wallett, the Republican candidate for Elgin Township clerk in next April’s election, was named to hold that post for the next four months during a special meeting of the township board Wednesday.

Incumbent Kurt Kojzarek had to resign this month as clerk because he had been elected to the Kane County Board in November. That left it up to the township board to appoint a temporary clerk to finish Kojzarek’s term.

Board members considered appointing Wallett to the vacancy at their last regular meeting, three weeks ago, but decided to ask for letters of interest from anyone else who might want the job before they made a decision.

After the board members voted unanimously Wednesday in favor of Wallett, Township Supervisor Annette Miller said no other people had indicated an interest in the job.

One other obvious possibility would have been Frank Imhoff, who is running for clerk in April on the Democratic ticket. But perhaps because four of the five current board members are Republicans, Imhoff did not throw his hat into the ring for the temporary appointment.

Trustee Carol Rauschenberger, the lone Democrat on the existing board, has decided not to run again. Running for the four trustee slots on the Republican ticket will be Randy Endean, a South Elgin police officer, plus incumbents Bob Johnson, Pat Hudgens and Vickie Pelock.

Running against them for trustee on the Democratic ticket will be Jonathon Bowles, Susan VanWeelden, Kenneth Spotts and Elvira Ramirez.

Running against Miller, a Republican, for the job of supervisor will be Democrat June Wooten.

Democrat Donna Griffin-Lego is running for highway commissioner against Republican incumbent Rick Burnidge.

The Democratic Party leaders didn’t slate anyone to challenge Republican Steve Surnicki for re-election as township assessor.
