Village president contests shaping up in both Dundees

Updated: January 20, 2013 6:15AM

Next April’s local elections have begun to shape up as filing began Monday for candidates in the area’s village board, school board and township races.

Nominating petitions must be submitted to the office of the governmental body involved by the close of business on Wednesday, Dec. 26.

No additional candidates filed Tuesday in Elgin School District U46, Community Unit School District 300 or Elgin Community College District 509. The following candidates were among those who filed in area village elections on Monday or Tuesday:

West Dundee

In West Dundee, Larry Keller has indicated that he plans to step down after 15 years as village president. And two candidates, Christopher Nelson and incumbent Village Trustee Andy Yuscka, have filed to run for the post.

Four seats also will be open at the trustee level. Rebecca Gillam had to give up her trustee seat because she was elected to the Kane County Board in November. The other three seats are now held by Patrick Hanley, Norm Osth and Julie Voss.

Hanley has filed to run again. Also filing as of Tuesday evening to run for trustee have been Daniel Wilbrandt, the son of former Village Planner Larry Wilbrandt, and William Phlanz.

East Dundee

A contest for the top job also seems in the cards on the other side of the Fox River. In East Dundee, terms will expire next spring for longtime Village President Jerald Bartels and for Trustees Robert Gorman, Paul VanOstenbridge and Lael Miller. In addition, Jennifer Rehberg resigned last month as village clerk.

On Monday, Bartels filed to run for re-election, but Miller also filed to run for president. For the three trustee seats, Gorman and VanOstenbridge filed Monday to run again while newcomer Dan Selep also filed to seek a spot on the village board.

No one had filed as of Tuesday night to run for village clerk.

South Elgin

In South Elgin, terms will expire next spring for Village President Jim Hansen, Village Clerk Margo Gray and three trustees — Bill DiFulvio, Scott Richmond and John Sweet.

Hansen, Gray and Richmond all filed Monday to run again.

Also filing so far to run for trustee were Robert B. Sauceda and Jennifer Barconi.

Hampshire

Hampshire voters will pick a village president and three trustees. Terms will expire in April for Village President Jeff Magnussen and Trustees George Brust, Martin Ebert and Jerry Shepardson.

As of Tuesday night, the only candidates who had filed were Brust and Ebert, both seeking new terms as trustees.
