ELGIN — As the calendar year draws to a close, the United Way of Elgin reports strong giving to its 2012-13 annual campaign. Three months into the effort, the United Way has raised just over $600,000, nearly 55 percent of its $1.1 million goal.
Led by Campaign Chairs Dan Walter and Glenn Murphy, nearly two-dozen volunteers have been knocking on the doors of local businesses to talk to corporate leaders about their companies’ philanthropic interests and how they can partner with United Way to make a difference in Elgin. In addition to seeking a corporate gift, volunteers are asking organizations to conduct an employee campaign with payroll deduction, providing an easy vehicle for employees to make a contribution. Several new companies have already signed on.
“The United Way understands the needs in our community and partners with programs and agencies that meet those needs most effectively” said Campaign Chair Dan Walter, of Lundstrom Insurance, “In turn, people know that their financial support will make a difference. We are fortunate that so many good people live and work here. People trust the United Way and we will continue to value and earn that trust.”
“This campaign requires an extraordinary effort by the entire community,” Walter said. “The money being raised will help strengthen our community and create long-lasting change for our citizens by supporting programs that focus on education, income and health — the building blocks of life,” Walter said.
“We are confident about achieving the goal because the volunteers are focused, the community is generous and the United Way is working on the issues that matter most to our residents.”
The campaign will continue through the first quarter of 2013 and there is still time to get involved,” said United Way President Lynne Bosley.
“Workplace campaigns are by far the easiest way to support United Way,” Bosley said. “If your workplace is interested in helping to support the work of United Way of Elgin through an employee campaign, please contact Christina Pearson at 847-741-2259.”
