ELGIN — A man accused of secretly taping his housemate as she took a shower in a shared bathroom of the home was charged with a felony, police said.
Diego A. Salas, 25, of the 0-100 block of South Melrose Avenue, was charged with unauthorized video recording in a residence, a Class 4 felony.
According to police, the victim, a 31-year-old woman, discovered a recording device in a bathroom closet on Nov. 9 after coming out of a shower. She then contacted police and turned over the device.
Police said a recording on the device shows Salas entering the bathroom and placing the video camera in the closet about four minutes before the woman entered and also recorded her in the bathroom.
According to police, the victim shares a common bathroom with Salas, who after his arrest told officers he had intended to record his wife in the bathroom.
Bail was set at $20,000 on the charge, and he was given a Nov. 30 court date.
