Updated: December 6, 2012 6:16AM

According to a police report released Friday, a young woman told police she was sleeping in her home in the 600 block of South Liberty Street in Elgin on Monday afternoon when she heard a noise, woke up and saw two men opening the closet door in her bedroom. When she sat up in bed, she said, one of the men shouted “Oh my God!” and they ran out of the house. The woman said she recognized one of the intruders as a friend who knows that her father used to keep thousands of dollars in the pocket of a suit coat hung in another bedroom closet.

Robbed on Villa: A teenager told police that as she walked along Villa Street near Prairie Street at about 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, five other teenagers came up to him, threatened to beat or shoot him, and stole his cellphone.

New break-in attempt: The owner of a house in the 800 block of South Liberty Street told police that on the night of Oct. 28-29, someone removed boards he had nailed over the basement door because of previous burglaries that removed the house’s copper pipes. No additional pipes were stolen in the new incident.
