GENEVA — With a new Kane County Board chairman set to take office in December and no county finance director in place, the board’s Finance Committee is recommending extending a temporary pay hike for two staff accountants who are filling the gap.
Committee Chairman Jim Mitchell, R-North Aurora, said Wednesday that the extension is merely a suggestion for the new board chairman. The Finance Committee director normally would have a say in the decision; however, Mitchell is not running for re-election, so he will not be around in December when the new chairman steps in.
“We’ll just let him or her decide what they want to do,” he said.
Former Finance Director Cheryl Patelli resigned over the summer to take a position in Colorado.
Since then, two staff accountants helped shape the 2013 budget, and the county brought in an auditing firm to look at projections. The recommendation is that the accountants continue to receive a stipend of $800 a month until a new finance director is hired by the next administration.
The resolution is set to go to the Administration Committee next.
