One person injured in Elgin fire incident

A suicidal person who called Elgin officials threatening to start a fire was apparently injured in a fire in Elgin Monday afternoon.
Fire personnel responded about 3 p.m. to the 800 block of Jan Marie Lane in Elgin after receiving a call from a suicidal person at the address who was threatening to start a fire, according to a release from the Elgin Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived, they smelled smoke coming from the home and were told the caller was still inside, the release said. Officers forced entry through the locked front door and forcibly removed the person to safety.
The person was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin with minor injuries.
Firefighters got the blaze under control in 10 minutes with minimal structural damage. The damage is estimated at $5,000.
Elgin police were also called to the residence about 11 a.m. Monday for a dispute, the release said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Elgin police and fire departments.
