ST. CHARLES — A 51-year-old St. Charles man faces child pornography and drug charges after a four-month joint investigation involving three police agencies.
Police said Gary L. Harris, of the 1800 block of Howard Street, was charged Monday with four counts of child pornography and with possession of cocaine and cannabis.
Police spokesman Paul McCurtain said the Naperville and Downers Grove police departments began investigating the sharing of child pornography in a file-sharing network. During their investigation, they determined the sharing involved a St. Charles resident and provided an IP address along with a DVD to St. Charles investigators.
An investigation was conducted by St. Charles detectives, and a search warrant was obtained, McCurtain said. On Sept. 25, the search warrant was executed at the address in the 1800 block of Howard Street, where computer equipment and DVDs were seized by investigators as evidence. A green leafy substance and white powder also were seized at the home, McCurtain said.
Additional investigation was conducted, and some of the many DVDs investigators reviewed were determined to be child pornography, police said. The green leafy substance and white powder tested positive for cannabis and cocaine, investigators said.
An arrest warrant with a $100,000 bail was obtained for Harris, and he turned himself in on Monday. He was booked, processed and released on $10,000 cash bond. His next court date is Nov. 14.
Harris is charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance (a Class X felony); four counts of aggravated child pornography (a Class 2 felony); and one count of manufacture or delivery of cannabis (a Class 3 felony).
