Raccoons killed: 48-year-old Elgin man told police that he likes to feed wild raccoons in his yard in the 900 block of Lavoie Avenue, and he fed two of them at midnight Sunday right when he went to bed. But when he looked out Monday morning, he said, he found both raccoons dead, shot by someone with a bow and arrow.

Robbed during walk: A man told police he was robbed while walking in the 100 block of West Chicago Street at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday. He said a man walked up to him and asked whether he had change for a $20 bill. When he pulled out his wallet, he said, the man grabbed the wallet, pushed him to the ground and ran away. He said the wallet contained $700 and some personal papers.

Mysterious entry: A couple who live in the 200 block of South McLean Boulevard noticed something was wrong when they returned home after being gone all day Wednesday and the wife asked the husband what he had done with their stereo. They soon realized it was missing, and so were a TV set, a watch, a digital camera and a cellphone. The couple told police the home must have been burglarized, but they could find no sign of forced entry.

House burglarized: A burglar apparently used a window to get into a home in the 800 block of Hastings Street between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, the owners told police. Stolen were two iPad computers (one with “Love Mom and Dad” engraved on the back, one with “Tondalaya” engraved on the back), a MacBook laptop computer, jewelry, a PlayStation3 game console and various PS3 games.

Knife might be his: A man who lives in the 400 block of Lincoln Avenue told police his home was burglarized the week of Aug. 19-25 but he didn’t report it until this week. He said he was reporting the crime now because he had seen a news report about a gang of burglars having been caught in Mount Prospect, and the loot they had stolen included an unusual knife that looked like one stolen from his house in Elgin. Also taken were a Barretta pistol, four power tools and a computer memory core stack.

Overnight burglary: A woman who lives in the 300 block of Adams Street told police someone entered her home through its garage on the night of Oct. 1-2 and searched through several drawers. But nothing was known to be missing.
