Prison sentence for Elgin robbery

ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP — An Elgin man pleaded guilty to robbing a man in July and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Jesus K. Martinez, 22, of the 300 block of Orchard Street, Elgin, agreed with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office to a sentence of 10 years in exchange for a guilty plea to one count of aggravated robbery.
Associate Judge Marmarie J. Kostelny accepted the plea.
At about 2 p.m. on July 23, Martinez approached the victim in the 500 block of North McLean Boulevard in Elgin, told the victim he was in possession of stolen merchandise and asked if he was interested in buying it. The victim drove Martinez to a location near South State and Morgan streets. The men exited the victim’s vehicle and went into a nearby apartment building.
Inside, Martinez took out what appeared to be a handgun, pointed it at the victim and demanded money. The victim gave Martinez approximately $860 in cash and checks. Martinez ran away, but the victim called 911 and provided a description of Martinez, who was taken into custody within minutes.
At the time of the robbery, Martinez was on parole for a 2011 theft conviction.
