Deck catches fire in Bartlett

Bartlett firefighters were called to the 200 block of North Marion Road at 4:15 a.m. Sunday for a house fire in which the home’s rear wooden deck had caught on fire and some flames were extending to the siding.

Police using fire extinguishers and garden hose were able to put out the fire before firefighters arrived. According to officials, rags used for staining wood had caught on fire. Damage to the home was estimated at $25,000, officials said.

Carpentersville

Heroin arrest: Brian D. Jones, 26, of Rockford was charged with felony counts of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia following his arrest Thursday in Carpentersville. He is accused of possessing between 1 and 15 grams of heroin along with and a metal spoon. Bail was set at $50,000, and he was given a Sept. 5 court date.

Possession charge: Lucas F. Medansky, 21, of the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue, Elgin, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended license following his arrest Thursday. He is accused of possessing less than 15 grams of heroin. Bail was set at $30,000, and he was given a Sept. 5 court date.
