ELGIN — School District U46 announced the hiring of three new administrators after a number of high-profile departures and some shuffling two weeks before the start of the 2012-13 school year.
Patrick Mogge will take on two roles: chief of communications and chief of family and community engagement, as the new director of school and community relations.
Former Chief of Communications Tony Sanders became chief of staff in U46 last school year. Former Chief of Family and Community Engagement Karen Fox retired this summer after about 18 years working for the district.
As U46 Superintendent Jose Torres did when he joined the Elgin-based school district in 2008, Mogge said right now he is “listening and learning.”
“I’m here supporting the work of local schools to get more community involved. It’s about closing the achievement gap and helping all students succeed,” he said.
Mogge, who grew up in Hanover Park and has nieces and nephews in the school district, is a certified teacher. He previously worked as suburban and downstate director for Stand for Children Illinois, as a campaign manager for campaigns ranging from city councils to Congress, and as a consultant for Stratagent Consulting Partners, according to the district. He also has held various roles at the Illinois State Board of Education, Illinois Learning Partnership and the governor’s office, it said.
Mogge received his bachelor’s degree in English education from Illinois State University and a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago, according to U46.
He will make $103,500 a year with the school district.
U46 also has hired Marc Hans as its coordinator of math, science and instructional technology. Hans joins the district from the ScienceFIST Foundation, which he co-founded, it said. He also has taught middle school science at Hanson Park School in Chicago, as well as third grade in Bloomington, Ill.
Hans received his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Illinois State University and a master’s degree in science and education leadership from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
His salary at U46 is $105,000, according to the district.
He replaces Jennifer McDonnell, who moves within U46 to the position of director of instruction for K-12. Previously, McDonnell was math and science instructional coordinator for Chicago Public Schools, math and science lead teacher at Durkin Park School in Chicago, and an adult educator in the Chicago City Colleges, where she taught ESL and GED classes, the district said.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from St. Xavier University and master’s degrees in both bilingual education/ESL from Chicago State University and education leadership from Concordia University.
McDonnell’s salary is $125,400, according to U46.
