Bartlett man faces charges in bootleg digital video case

BARTLETT — Police say a Bartlett man imported tens of thousands of counterfeit DVDs from Hong Kong so he could sell them over an online retail site.
Joseph P. Palmisano, 57, of the 300 block of Oakmont Drive in Bartlett, was charged with unlawful use of recorded sounds and images, a Class 4 felony, after a raid on his home Thursday morning by village police, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and agents from the Department of Homeland Security.
Bartlett Sgt. Geoffrey Pretkelis said the raiders found tens of thousands of counterfeit DVDs of popular television series such as “Breaking Bad,” “White Collar,” “True Blood,” “Burn Notice,” “NCIS” and “Castle,” as well as popular Hollywood movies.
He said police and agents had obtained a search warrant based on information from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Service.
On Friday Palmisano was taken to the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows, where bail on the charge was set by a judge at $25,000. His next court date is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 19.
