Pedestrian struck, reportedly killed by Metra train in Hanover Park

Updated: August 30, 2012 11:46AM

All inbound and outbound trains on the Milwaukee District / West Line have been stopped after a Metra train struck and killed a pedestrian Monday morning in Hanover Park.

Train No. 2208, which originated in Elgin, struck a pedestrian near the Hanover Park station about 6:40 a.m., according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller.

The person was reportedly killed, although Miller was unable to confirm that Monday morning.

A spokesman for the DuPage County Coroner’s office also could not confirm the death.

All trains are stopped in both directions and three inbound trains behind the train involved in the incident are being delayed, Miller said.

The delays are expected to extend later into the morning rush period.

A Hannover Park firefighter said his department responded to the report of a person down on the tracks, but did not have any further details.
