Parolees face charges in Elgin home invasion, battery

Elgin police have charged two men who were out on parole in connection with a brutal home invasion early Saturday morning,
According to a press release, at approximately 3:20 a.m. police were called to the 400 block of Raymond Street for a reported battery. Police learned that two offenders had forced their way into a residence and had beaten a 25-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman while her 5-year-old child was present. The offenders had used a clothes iron to beat the male victim about his face, causing severe injuries, the release stated.
According to police, the female victim identified one suspect as Modesto Rosales, who is a previous boyfriend and who is the father of her young child. She also identified the second suspect as Jaime Zarate, a friend of Rosales, reports said.
Elgin officers set up surveillance on the last known address for Rosales in the 300 block of Wilcox Avenue. A short time later both suspects drove up to the house and got out of a car. A brief foot chase ensued and both suspects were apprehended, police said.
Both men were charged with home invasion, a Class X felony, and four counts of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony. Rosales also was charged with one count of aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony.
The male victim initially was transported to Sherman Hospital in Elgin and then transferred to another local hospital due to his extensive facial injuries. The female victim was transported to Sherman Hospital, reports stated.
Bail for each suspect was set at $500,000 on the charges. Their next court date is scheduled for Friday.
