3rd Hampshire rollover a fatality

Man dies in third rollover: A Hampshire man was killed Thursday night when his car left the road, struck a concrete encasement and rolled over, authorities said. Thomas E. Kopitke, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene off Walker Road between Route 72 and Allen Road, according to Lt. Chris Collins of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. Collins said the vehicle, a 1989 Ford Mustang, was northbound on Walker Road when it left the roadway on the west side and struck the encasement before overturning and coming to rest in a field. Police and firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 9 p.m. Collins said Kopitke was alone in the car and no witnesses to the crash were present. It was the third crash that day involving overturned vehicles in the area just west of Hampshire. In the morning, five people sustained minor injuries in overturn crashes at different points along New Lebanon Road. But Deputy Chief Trevor Herrmann of Hampshire Fire Protection District said there was no common bond between the crashes; “It was just one of those days.”
Home burglary: Someone broke into a home in the 100 block of Grace Street on June 9 and stole cash from inside, police reported Friday.
Abandoned from Chicago: A police officer patrolling on June 8 discovered a car parked between the railroad track and the crossing-control box where the Canadian Pacific Railway crosses Brier Hill Road, police reported Friday. When officers determined the vehicle was owned by someone who lives in Chicago and whose driver’s license has been suspended for years, the car was towed away from the railroad.

Mobile home break-in: A woman told police that someone broke into her mobile home in the 800 block of Jan Marie Lane while she was away between 8:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Thursday. She said she had left all the doors locked. But when she got back, the front door was unlocked, and someone had stolen a laptop, a DVD player and about $200 worth of change.
