Fighting roosters, cannabis plants, cash discovered near Woodstock

A man faces several criminal charges after a raid by McHenry County sheriffs’ deputies found fighting roosters, marijuana plants and a small fortune in cash, plus other contraband, at his home near Woodstock, authorities said.
Sheriff Keith Nygren said the sheriff’s office narcotics unit, which consists of sheriff’s detectives and an investigator from the Lake in the Hills Police Department, had been investigating Anthony Jayne, 54, of the 11800 block of Lucas Road, for possible drug- and gun-related activity. A judge granted a search warrant for Jayne’s property and, on Saturday, the sheriff’s SWAT team and K-9 unit raided the house.
Nygren said officers found 1,151 grams of cannabis, a shotgun, a rifle, ammunition, drug paraphernalia, scales, 43 suspected cannabis plants, 22 fighting-equipped roosters, two dead hawks and $88,969 in cash.
McHenry County Animal Control was contacted to assist with the roosters, and Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police were contacted concerning the dead hawks.
Nygren estimated the street value of the seized cannabis at $5,000.
Jayne was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver; unlawful possession of cannabis; unlawful manufacture of cannabis sativa plants; two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon; two counts of possession of ammunition by a felon; two misdemeanor counts of possession of a firearm without a firearm owner’s ID card; two counts of possessing ammunition without a FOID card; and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. He also was charged with five misdemeanor counts of unlawful use of animals in entertainment.
A McHenry County judge set Jayne’s bail at $30,000, and he was assigned a May 31 court date.
