Teen charged in Bartlett shooting

BARTLETT — A 17-year-old Bartlett boy has been charged as an adult with shooting another teen Tuesday, a boy he had apparently fought with in the past.

Deavonte Cain, 17, of the 300 block of David Court, was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, a class X felony, and aggravated discharge of a firearm, a class 1 felony, according to a release from Bartlett police.

The boy shot, also 17, was walking eastbound near Oneida and Eastern avenues about 7:30 p.m. when Cain allegedly rode up on a bicycle and fired a small-caliber handgun, the release said.

The teen was shot in the shoulder and later released from an area hospital, the release said.

Police said the victim does not live in Bartlett but declined to reveal other information about him.

Police say the confrontation stemmed from previous physical fights involving both teens, and that the shooting was not gang-related.

On Friday, a Cook County judge set Cain’s bail at $50,000. It was unclear whether he was able to post the $5,000 cash required to go free until his next court date.
